One to One Performances by Lital Dotan

One to one performances allow a shared vulnerability and a radically intimate experience with a stranger. In Dotan’s work, intimacy is about humanness or the risk of its loss. It is an invitation for a deep personal introspect of the individual participating confronted with social norms in an insulated structure. Next to human interactions such as hugging for an extended timeframe in 'The Last Hug’ (2008-) or sleeping with a stranger overnight in ‘Sleeping Surround’ (2009-) are other than human interactions such as hugging thorns, embracing ice or sleeping with a projected leopard- an illustration of gestural undercurrents that lay beyond the human interaction.
